Brasileirinhos-dk

From community to a digital ecosystem: A UX redesign for Brasileirinhos-dk

Brasileirinhos-dk is a volunteer-run Brazilian community organization in Denmark supporting families through cultural activities, language preservation, and social events. The project aimed to redesign its digital presence to improve member attraction, onboarding, and engagement. Research revealed that the core challenge was not the website itself, but a fragmented communication system across multiple platforms, leading to the design of a cohesive digital ecosystem.

Results

Improved clarity of the user journey through a cohesive digital ecosystem

Reduced friction in key user flows, especially membership registration

Increased trust through a more consistent digital experience

Problem

Users struggled to understand what Brasileirinhos-dk offered, how to navigate between different platforms, and how to complete key actions such as membership registration. This fragmentation created confusion and reduced engagement and trust.

My Role

UX Designer (End-to-End) • Conducted user research (interviews, card sorting, usability testing) • Defined information architecture and user flows • Reframed the problem from website redesign to ecosystem challenge • Designed wireframes and prototypes in Figma • Conducted usability testing and iterated based on feedback • Implemented the final solution in WordPress

Key Insights

• Users did not understand the organisation’s purpose at first interaction • Information was fragmented across multiple platforms • Instagram functioned as the main entry point, not the website • Membership flow created friction and drop-off • Lack of structure reduced trust and clarity

Solution

The solution restructured Brasileirinhos-dk into a coherent digital ecosystem by: • Defining clear roles for each platform (Instagram, website, WhatsApp, membership flow) • Simplifying navigation and aligning structure with user mental models • Improving information hierarchy and clarity of content • Reducing friction in the membership and onboarding flow • Creating a more consistent and trustworthy digital experience

Impact

• Users understood the organization more quickly • Navigation became clearer and more structured • Membership registration became easier to complete • Overall trust in the platform increased

What I Learned

Designing for fragmented ecosystems requires system-level thinking beyond individual interfaces. Clear structure, consistent information, and defined entry points are essential to guiding users and enabling action.
